Beach house
Private Residence·Nahr Ibrahim | Lebanon·2003·Unbuilt
Perched directly on the rocky shoreline at Nahr Ibrahim, this beach house wraps its living spaces in a curved, cylindrical metal form that seems to grow out of the rock itself rather than sit on top of it. Full-height glazing opens the interior straight onto the sea, with slender structural mullions the only interruption between the living space and the waves breaking just beyond the terrace, a house built to feel almost outdoors even when the doors are closed.
The curved geometry does more than create a memorable silhouette: it lets the house wrap around difficult, uneven rock formations that a conventional rectilinear plan couldn't easily sit on, while giving every room its own slightly different angle onto the water. Outdoor terraces stitched between boulders extend the living space out onto the rocks themselves, blurring the line between the architecture and the coastline it's built into.
