Berytus Parks extension

Residential Extension·Beirut Central District·2016·Unbuilt

An extension to the existing Berytus Parks building in Beirut's central district, this project adds a series of angular, faceted rooftop volumes to what was previously a more conventional flat roofline: new penthouse-level spaces set back from the building's edge and wrapped in dark metal panelling that reads as a distinct, sculptural addition rather than an attempt to disguise itself as original construction. Cut-outs and terraces are carved directly into the new massing, opening parts of the addition to the sky and giving the upper levels their own outdoor space above the rest of the building. Seen from the street, the extension announces itself honestly as new work: a contemporary, faceted crown added onto an established building, rather than a seamless continuation of what came before it.
