Residential tower

Jeddah | KSA·2009·Competition Proposal

Rising in three distinct registers, this residential tower in Jeddah separates its underground, base, and tower volumes into clearly different roles. Below grade, a single level holds parking for 125 cars alongside technical plant; at the base, four floors handle arrival and shared life. The ground floor brings together the building's entrance, a visitors' lounge, parking, and an internal garden, while the three floors above it house communal amenities like the gymnasium and service apartments. Above that base, the tower itself rises 33 floors, each one holding a single residential flat ranging from 450 to a generous 750 square metres, full-floor living, in other words, rather than the subdivided plans typical of most residential towers. The building's twisting form turns what could have been a repetitive stack of identical floors into something closer to a sculptural gesture on the Jeddah skyline, with each flat's outlook shifting subtly as the tower spirals upward.
