Birdy lamp

Lighting·2008

Birdy takes its form directly from flight: a folded, wing-shaped shade that echoes the down-stroke and up-stroke of a bird's wing beat, translated into a single sculptural lighting fixture. Rather than being fixed to one orientation, the lamp is built around a multi-directional swivelling joint that lets its head point toward the wall, the floor, or the ceiling, one fixture doing the work of several different lamp types depending on how it's hung and aimed. That flexibility is the point: Birdy is designed as a genuinely multi-functional light source, equally at home as an accent light thrown against a wall, a reading light angled down, or an ambient wash bounced off the ceiling, its wing-like form staying visually consistent while its function changes entirely with the angle of the joint.
