The Strata ashtray

Strata builds an ashtray out of stacked, configurable rings rather than a single moulded form: a closed metal top ring sits above layered open rings in marble, crystal, or wood, each layer visible as its own distinct material band. The metal top itself comes in a choice of patterns designed specifically to hold a cigarette securely, so the functional detail doubles as a design feature rather than an afterthought. Because the rings are genuinely stackable and configurable, Strata lets users rebuild the object to their own taste: swapping material layers, changing the stack height, or simply rearranging the bands for a different look, turning a small, everyday object into something closer to a tabletop kit of parts.
